Tyson Qualls' FFC returns for the 2010 season with an inside look at potential fantasy stars on the Arizona Cardinals. Gone are consistent contributors Kurt Warner and Anquan Boldin. What Cardinal players will step up to fill the fantasy void? Tyson Q. evaluates the top five fantasy options on the Cards.
5. Derek Anderson
Many Cardinal fans would agree Anderson's best attribute is that he is not Matt Leinart
. The former sixth-round pick beat out the former 10th overall pick in the battle for starting quarterback. While the loss of Anquan Boldin
will certainly diminish Anderson's ability to put up gaudy numbers, arguably the top receiver in the NFL - Larry Fitzgerald
- remains on the receiving end of his passes.
Anderson should benefit from an improved offensive line, a relatively weak season schedule, and the presence of Beanie Wells
. The ex-Browns quarterback is incredibly streaky, but when he is on his game he can light up a scoreboard. Fitzgerald's ability to catch poorly thrown passes will help his completion percentage and push him into a top 15 quarterback.
4. Arizona Defense
Despite the loss of Antrel Rolle
and Karlos Dansby
, the Cardinals' defense should still be able to produce quality numbers in the soft NFC West. Four games against the St. Louis Rams
and Seattle Seahawks
will help drive the defense towards the top half of the league. Adding defensive tackle Dan Williams
to the duo of Calais Campbell
and Darnell Dockett makes for an imposing front line that will be able to frequently get to the quarterback.
3. Steve Breaston
Simply playing across from Fitzgerald makes Breaston a worthy threat. He capably filled in for Boldin and should be a viable downfield threat. The added arm strength of Anderson only increases his big play chances.
2. Beanie Wells
Wells will undoubtedly be the starting running back by the end of the season. His tough running style is a perfect fit for coach Ken Whisenhunt's system. Now that Kurt Warner
is dancing with the stars, Wells should see much more action in the backfield. The Ohio State
alum will break 1,000 yards and rush for at least 7 touchdowns in 2010.
1. Larry Fitzgerald
Fitzgerald is a no-brainer pick. A consistent scorer who is a physically gifted workaholic. His ability to score copious amounts of touchdowns will depend partially on Breaston. The newest number two option will have to make defenses pay, in order to take some of the pressure off of Fitzgerald. Fantasy owners can count on 1200 yards and 8 touchdowns from the Cardinals' star player.
