Cardinals: Defense Collapses in Atlanta

The Cardinals struggled in all facets of the game on Sunday but the defense was especially disappointing.

Cardinals defensive coordinator Bill Davis didn't have a lot of detailed analysis of why his unit played so poorly in a 41-7 loss to the Falcons last Sunday.

The blame can be spread evenly, Davis said, beginning with him.

"We got out-coached. They executed their offense a lot better than we executed our defense, and in a much more physical way. That's on me to get it fixed and we will. We'll learn from this and it will make us better."

The Cardinals yielded 221 yards rushing on 45 carries, and the Falcons scored three touchdowns through the air.

The Cardinals didn't do anything well. They sacked Matt Ryan only once and rarely pressured him. And the Falcons just physically beat them up among the front seven.

They ran at outside linebacker Joey Porter, and when the Cardinals weren't getting beat straight up, they helped the situation with alignment errors.

"One thing I know about is fights," said defensive end Darnell Dockett. "Every now and then it takes a good (expletive) kicking to humble yourself and make you put more work in."
