Cardinals: Week 4 Report Card

The Cardinals are grading out progressively worse week after week and last Sunday's contest in San Diego was no different.

PASSING OFFENSE: F -- The Cardinals gained just 146 yards and were sacked nine times. Derek Anderson had two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, and missed a wide open receiver for a touchdown.

RUSHING OFFENSE: F -- The Cardinals showed some life early but trailed by three touchdowns at halftime and had to rely solely on the pass. Beanie Wells needs to play more.

PASS DEFENSE: F -- Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers passed only 20 times but he completed 15 for 241 yards and two scores. He was sacked only once and wasn't intercepted. Tight end Antonio Gates caught all seven passes thrown to him for 144 yards and two scores.

RUSH DEFENSE: F -- The Chargers demolished the Cardinals front seven, gaining 180 yards on 38 carries. Mike Tolbert led them with 100 yards. The Cardinals didn't show much interest in tackling him.

SPECIAL TEAMS: C -- No gaffes for the Cardinals but no big plays, either. The return games didn't generate much. The coverage was decent.

COACHING: F -- The Cardinals aren't great on defense, but they shouldn't be this bad. Covering Antonio Gates would have been a good idea. The Cardinals tried putting inside linebacker Paris Lenon on him once, and Gates scored a touchdown. Offensively, this team can't recover when things go against it early.
