The Cardinals showed improvement in a Week 5 win against New Orleans. But how much of it was good…
Cardinals: Week 6 News & Notes
--The Cardinals have won nine consecutive games when coming off a loss. They have not had consecutive losses since December 2008.
--Coach Ken Whisenhunt has won 34 games in the regular season and postseason. That's fourth on the Cardinals' all-time list, one behind Charley Winner.
--Dating to 1960, Max Hall is the second Cardinals rookie QB to win his first career start. George Izo won in October 1960. He completed one of six passes attempts for 22 yards, then left in the second quarter with a knee injury.
--Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie had no regrets about not taking a knee when he intercepted a pass with 24 seconds left. Rodgers-Cromartie returned the pick for a touchdown, even though the smart move would have been to go down. The Cardinals could have kneeled to end the game. "I was trying to run the score up," he said. "Them boys embarrassed us (last season in the playoffs), and I was trying to make a statement."
--RB Beanie Wells gained just 35 yards on 20 carries. He complained last week after getting only five rushing attempts. The Saints loaded up to stop the run, but Wells needs to break some tackles. A 1.8-yard average was disappointing.
--WR Stephen Williams suffered a bruised back and ribs from taking a hit after catching a high pass from Derek Anderson. The injuries are not expected to be serious.
--WR Steve Breaston is expected to return after the bye. He has missed the past two games after undergoing knee surgery.
--WR Early Doucet is expected to return after the bye. He has missed three games after undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia.
--LB Gerald Hayes is eligible to begin practicing next Monday. He is on the physically unable to perform list and has been healthy enough to practice for a few weeks. If he can play, Hayes could start at the strong inside spot with Paris Lenon moving to the weak side. Daryl Washington, a rookie, has struggled at times as a starter.
