Sunday will be the first career starts for the Cardinals' two cornerbacks, A.J. Jefferson and Patrick Peterson.

It's not a surprise that Peterson is starting. He's the fifth overall pick in the draft, and while coach Ken Whisenhunt likes to bring rookies along slowly, Peterson is too talented to sit.

Jefferson, however, is a surprise. He signed as an undrafted free agent out of Fresno State in 2010, bounced from the regular roster to the practice squad and played in only two games.

But Jefferson has been less of a question this preseason than the other starting corner spot. He's been consistent throughout, and he doesn't lack for confidence.

The other corner spot was up for grabs between Greg Toler, Richard Marshall and Peterson. When Toler suffered a torn ACL in the second preseason game, Peterson moved into the starting lineup.

Marshall, a free agent from Carolina, will be the nickel back.
