Cards' Kolb struggling, Peterson surging

Kevin Kolb is completing under 53% of his passes in the past four games while Patrick Peterson had another return touchdown.

BY THE NUMBERS: 52.6 percent -- Passes completed by quarterback Kevin Kolb in the past four games. In his first three games this season, he completed 62.5 percent of his passes. Kolb completed just 10 of 21 in the loss to the Ravens. Coaches think the decline has much to do with poor footwork, a result of Kolb transitioning from the West Coast system he used at Philadelphia to the Cardinals' scheme, which is more a traditional, Don Coryell-based scheme. What's asked of the quarterback is different, and Kolb's poor footwork is causing errant throws. He doesn't trust his protection, and when under pressure, he is not moving up in the pocket often enough. He's scrambling backward too much, and he hasn't been accurate when he rolls out.

TRENDING: Patrick Peterson has two punt returns for touchdowns this season, becoming the first Cardinal to achieve that feat since Vai Sikahema in 1986. Peterson is the eighth player in franchise history to have more than one punt return for a touchdown in a season. Only Ollie Matson (three) and Sikahema (three) have more career punt return touchdowns for the Cardinals than Peterson. Recommended Stories
