It's too early to declare a winner in the trade but quarterback Kevin Kolb has yet to live up to expectations.

It's too early to declare a winner in the trade that sent cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round pick to the Eagles for quarterback Kevin Kolb.

Through eight games, neither team is getting what it wanted out of the deal.

Kolb has struggled over the past month and missed last week's game with a foot injury that includes turf toe.

Rodgers-Cromartie isn't starting, and he has not played well as the team's nickel cornerback.

If there's an edge right now, it belongs to the Eagles by virtue of the 2012 second-round pick it received.

The Cardinals are behind Kolb in the long-term. They have to be after signing him to a five-year, $63 million deal immediately following the trade.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, Kolb will get his job when he's healthy and won't be benched this season.

Coaches think most of his problems stem from a lack of offseason work in this offense.

Eagles' coach Andy Reid thinks Kolb will be fine, too. "I know Ken (Whisenhunt) is a phenomenal coach and Kevin is a good player," he said. "I've got a ton of respect for Kevin Kolb and that's a great combination to have right there. Kevin is a young guy that's going to do nothing but get better.

"I saw it first-hand. I watched every opportunity he got to play and he continued to get better, so I know he'll do that same thing there."

The problem with that, however, is that Kolb isn't getting better with every opportunity. Over his last four games, he completed 52 percent of his passes, down from 62.5 percent in his first three games.

Kolb didn't practice Wednesday but is holding out hope of playing in Philadelphia against his old team. He is going to have to make dramatic improvement, however, to do that.
