QB Kevin Kolb's right foot injury must show considerable improvement if he's going to play Sunday in St. Louis.

Kevin Kolb's right foot injury must show considerable improvement if he's going to play Sunday in St. Louis.

Kolb was able to go through individual drills last week in practice, but he appeared to be at about half-speed during portions that were open to media.

He has missed three games with the injury, which includes turf toe, a mid-foot sprain and a bone bruise. Kolb's rehabilitation protocol was increased last week, and he was still experiencing trouble with running and planting to throw.

At least there is no chance of a quarterback controversy now. Backup John Skelton played poorly last week in the loss to the 49ers, completed 6 of 19 passes for 99 yards and three interceptions.

He was benched after the third quarter, and Rich Bartel finished the game.

Skelton will start against the Rams if Kolb can't play, but don't expect coach Ken Whisenhunt to wait three quarters again if Skelton struggles.

Bartel is untested, too, but the Cardinals can't afford to get off to another slow start under Skelton.
