The St. Louis Rams signed second-round cornerback Janoris Jenkins to a four-year, $5 million deal. The deal includes $3.1 million in guaranteed money and a $2.1 million signing bonus. According to a league source, Jenkins got the largest percentage increase in the second round. The Rams also signed third-round cornerback Trumaine Johnson to a four-year deal.

The Rams also signed third-round cornerback Trumaine Johnson to a four-year deal.

A former University of Florida standout, Jenkins excelled at the Senior Bowl all-star game.

Before leaving Florida, Jenkins fared well against future Cincinnati Bengals Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Green and Atlanta Falcons starter Julio Jones. He held them to an average of 38 yards per game.

At the NFL scouting combine, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds and had a 10-1 broad jump. He was dismissed from the Gators program due to off-field problems.

Jenkins has been contrite about his past issues. Jenkins disclosed at the NFL scouting combine that he was arrested three times, once for his involvement in a bar fight and twice for possession of marijuana.

"I’m grateful for my second chance," Jenkins said at the combine. "I was honest, straightforward. Told them I did it. I admitted to everything. I take full responsibility. I learned from it. It made me a stronger person. How to separate myself from certain guys, certain people. In order to be successful at the next level, I can’t do the things that I used to do."

Jenkins, 23, said he's working hard to prove to teams that his past transgressions aren't indications of future trouble and stressed that he has matured.

How it will affect his draft stock is something that he'll find out later this month during the NFL draft.

"I’m pretty sure it will hurt me, but I’m moving past that," Jenkins said.

Jenkins has four children and wants to establish himself in the NFL to support his family.

He said he's through with marijuana.

"I’m done," Jenkins said. "I can’t do it. I thought about my mom and my kids. In order for them to have a nice life, I have to put that aside."

Last year, Jenkins was a second-team All-American selection who finished second nationally with a 21.7 punt return average as he returned three punts for touchdowns.

He also had 53 tackles, two interceptions, four pass deflections and two fumble recoveries.

For the Gators, he had 121 tackles, eight interceptions and 25 pass deflections in 36 career starts.

Jenkins' talent is unquestioned. Teams want to find a comfort level with him as a person, though.

"They see the talent," Jenkins said. "They just want to know what kind of kid I am. I’m not a bad kid. I’ve made a few mistakes and I learned from them. Everything I did, I did. I’m admitting it. I did it. I’m looking to put that in my past and move forward."
