No charges filed against Broncos' Dumervil

No formal charges will be filed against Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil following his arrest on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm in Miami.

The case was a third-degree felony. If he had been formally charged and convicted, the NFL player could have faced up to five years in jail.

Arrested in Miami Beach, Dumervil, 28, was freed on $7,500 bail.

"No charges have been filed," Dumervil's agent, Martin Magid, said in a statement at the time of the arrest. "No assault took place, and it's likely once the full investigation is complete no charges will be filed against Elvis."

Attorney Harvey Steinberg successfully represented Dumervil in the case.

Dumervil is a two-time Pro Bowl selection who recorded 17 sacks three seasons ago to lead the NFL.

He registered 9 1/2 sacks last season.

Signed to a $61.5 million contract two years ago, Dumervil was sidelined for the entire 2010 season with a torn pectoral muscle.

Last year, charges against Dumervil stemming from an altercation with a parking lot attendant were dismissed.

Dumervil had been charged with assault and disturbing the peace.

He was issued a citation after not being allowed into Invesco Field when he forgot his player credential and being denied entry by a parking lot attendant. Now, Dumervil has another legal victory.
