Senior Bowl: Trufant Ready to Take the Path

Washington cornerback Desmond Trufant is the third Trufant brother who will try to make his way to the NFL. Older brothers Marcus and Isaiah play for the Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets, respectively.

MOBILE, Ala. — Another Trufant brother, another player in the NFL.

The two seem to go hand in hand. Oldest brother Marcus Trufant was drafted in 2003 and still plays for the Seattle Seahawks. Then came Isaiah Trufant. After spending time playing in the arena football league after his college career, the middle Trufant brother made his way to the NFL and is with the New York Jets. Now it is little brother Desmond's turn and he's more than ready to take it.

"They left a path for me to follow," Desmond Trufant said on Monday at the Senior Bowl. "I'm just trying to do the same things they are doing but even better."

The 5-foot-11 190-pound cornerback played in every game his last three seasons at Washington, proving his body is durable and can take the wear and tear through the grind of the season.

"I was always told there is a difference between pain and injury," Desmond Trufant said. "I'm a mentally tough player, so I get through things."

Kind of how he got through being the youngest brother in a house of future NFL players. "When we were younger Marcus won (sibling fights) because he was the biggest," Desmond Trufant said. "But I don't know now."

Though it won't be through any one-on-one battles on Sundays, the youngest Trufant might soon find the answer. All three brothers are defensive backs. Though tackling each other may be out of the question, the scoreboard always provides a definitive answer.

Desmond Trufant is projected as a second round pick in this year's draft.
