San Francisco adds tight end McDonald

The 49ers continued their wheeling and dealing to take tight end Vance McDonald, who figures to take the place of the departed Delanie Walker.

It took their third trade of the draft to get to No. 55 overall. When they did, the 49ers continued to draft players at positions of need by taking the tight end from Rice.

The 6-4, 267 pound McDonald played four seasons for the Owls, making 119 catches for a combined 1504 yards. McDonald was used mostly as a slot receiver and was the team's top target for a majority of his collegiate career. He was an All-Conference USA selection.

San Francisco sent a second-round pick (No. 61) and a sixth-round pick (No. 174) for the opportunity to take McDonald at No. 55. Recommended Stories
