After just a series of offseason workouts and minicamps, the Patriots have decided to move on without free agent pickup WR Donald Jones. The former Buffalo Bill was replaced by a pair of rookies.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Patriots released wide receiver Donald Jones on Friday and signed rookie receivers Perez Ashford and Quentin Sims.

Jones played in 35 NFL games for Buffalo with 22 starts and has 82 receptions for 887 yards and six touchdowns. Last season, he played in 12 games and finished with 41 receptions for 443 yards and four touchdowns.

Ashford was originally signed by the Cleveland Browns as a rookie free agent out of Northern Illinois. He also returned kicks in college.

Sims played two seasons at Georgia Tech before transferring to Tennessee-Martin. He had 86 receptions for 1,092 yards and 16 touchdowns in college last season.
