Gators in the NFL: Week One

There were 23 former Florida football players active during week one of the NFL season while 10 earned the started. Only one former Gator scored a touchdown.

Carlos Dunlap started at defensive end and made three tackles, two quarterback hits and one pass breakup for the Cincinnati Bengals. Reggie Nelson earned the start at free safety and made two total tackles.

Major Wright started at strong safety for the Chicago Bears and made seven tackles. Linebacker Jon Bostic didn't start or record a stat, but he saw time on the field.

Andre Caldwell played for the Denver Broncos and caught one pass for a 28-yard touchdown.

Mike Pouncey started at center for the Miami Dolphins. Kicker Caleb Sturgis went 3-for-3 in field goal attempts, hitting a long of 49 yards. Linebacker Jelani Jenkins made one tackle on special teams.

Ray McDonald started at defensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers, making four tackles, including one for a loss and half a sack. McDonald also added one quarterback hit.

Cornerback Joe Haden started for the Cleveland Browns and made one tackle while holding Dolphins receiver Mike Wallace to one catch for 15 yards.

Marcus Gilbert started at right tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Maurkice Pouncey started at center but tore his ACL and MCL on the Steelers' first drive, causing him to undergo season-ending surgery.

Jeremy Mincey saw time at defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars and made one tackle for a loss. Rookie safety Josh Evans made three tackles on defense and special teams.

Tight end Jordan Reed played for the Washington Redskins and made five catches for 38 yards in his first career NFL game.

Wide receiver Riley Cooper started for the Philadelphia Eagles, making two catches for 14 yards.

Defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd saw playing time and deflected one pass for the Minnesota Vikings.

Linebacker Brandon Spikes started for the New England Patriots and made two tackles.

Safety Matt Elam played in the Thursday night opener for the Baltimore Ravens and made one tackle.

Saw action but no stats: Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Jaye Howard, New York Giants wide receiver Louis Murphy, New York Giants defensive end Justin Trattou and Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Ahmad Black.
