Arrest Bad News For Arrington

As J.J. Arrington’s days in Arizona are already numbered, reports of an early morning arrest are surfacing. The backup running back is entering his fourth season and will face rookie Tim Hightower in training camp for a spot on the roster. He enters a contract year, and this occurrence has bad news written all over it for Arrington.

The arrest was made after a fight broke out at a North Carolina nightclub. According to the Arizona Rebulic, Arrington was charged with disorderly conduct.

Arrington was a second-round pick of the 2005 NFL Draft and didn’t add much to the ground game last season. On 26 attempts, he rushed for 78 yards.

Arizona relied solely on Edgerrin James to get the job done. This year will mark James 10th year in the league, so the Cardinals are in the process of looking for a back to groom for his replacement. While James is still producing 1,222-yard season, the Cardinals want more per carry (3.8).

Tim Hightower out of Richmond was a surprise pick in the fifth-round, but is generating a lot of worthy buzz to beat out Arrington and compete with Marcel Shipp for the No. 2 role and to possibly become the Cardinals future premier back.

The Cardinals are seeking more information regarding the arrest, but is a team that doesn’t tolerate off-the-field trouble.

After pictures of QB Matt Leinart partying were leaked on the Internet and discussed throughout the country, coach Ken Whisenhunt said this:

"I reiterated to [Matt] the type of behavior that we expect at all times from our players. He understands that as well as the level of scrutiny that he's under because of who he is. It's being handled internally. I was disappointed but at the same time have no doubts about his commitment to this football team or his ability to lead it."
