The What Ifs Of a Boldin Trade

Where would Boldin go and for how much?

A few months ago, Anquan Boldin was adamant about staying in Arizona, what a difference training camp makes. He has since told the media that he has no relationship with Ken Whisenhunt and wants out.We catch up with NFL Insider Adam Caplan to ask him which teams would be most interested, what's the market value for Boldin, what would Arizona get in return and would it be fair this late in the game?

Amberly Richardson: It has surfaced that Anquan Boldin is asking for a trade. It seems highly unlikely that the Cardinals would go through with this, but hypothetically, which teams would be the most interested?

Adam Caplan: Philadelphia tried to trade for Larry Fitzgerald and tried to sign Randy Moss so I would imagine they would have some interest in him.

Tampa Bay has had all sorts of problems getting someone to play opposite veteran WR Joey Galloway and they have a lot of salary cap space. So it wouldn't be a surprise if they had interest in him should Arizona make Boldin available.

AR: What is the market value for a player like Boldin?

AC: According to a league source, Boldin's current contract averages about $5.665 per season. I would imagine he'll try to get in the $8 million per season range. Larry Fitzgerald's new deal averages about $10 million per season.

In a trade, I could see Boldin going for a second-round pick but not more than that because of his injury history. He's a really good player but it's hard to justify a higher pick based on the fact he's only played two full seasons out of five.

AR: Do you think the Cardinals would receive equal value in return this late in the game?

AC: I think a second-round pick would be fair in general based on Boldin's production in his five years of play. And given the regular season starts in two weeks, that's pretty good value.
