Wide receiver Lance Long is an undrafted guy with a lot to prove. He was a breakout player in camp and showed up to play in Arizona for Friday night's final preseason match. He started off shaky dropping a pass from Leinart but was able to wrap up a tackle when teammate Steve Baylark fumbled.
He finished his final campaign for a roster spot with 46 yards. Whichever way the turk swings, Long has benefited from being in a deep receiving corps.
“They are great guys,” Long said. “I couldn’t ask for a better receiving corps. They are more than willing to help you out.”
Long has taken advantage of the situation by picking the veteran receivers’ brains. Long says he is ready to earn his way through special teams, but just doesn’t want to make the team, he wants to contribute.
Long describes his preseason showing as decent. He got a shake down in preseason game No. 3 where he was welcomed to the big league bit hitting style.
“I was happy to get the hit over with,” Long said. “I was like alright let’s play football.”
