One Last Look At Week Four
"He wanted to get up. He asked me to let them let him get up," said head coach Ken Whisenhunt when asked about Boldin at Monday's press conference. "What was important at the time was that he lets the doctors and medical staff do their procedure. That was to make sure there was no damage or injury we couldn't see on the field. After we talked a little bit, he said ok."
"The commissioner has made it very clear that player safety is an important issue for the league with all 1800 players and 100 plus coaches. To me it's one of those plays that falls under player safety," Whisenhunt said. "In that category of player safety are these types of hits. I think its one of the hits that falls under being dangerous to players."
Later in the day the league served New York Jets safety Eric Smith with a one game suspension and a $ 50,000 fine. Suffering their second straight loss, Ken Whisenhunt had plenty of blame to go around. "It was not a good day yesterday for us," Whisenhunt said. "Whether it was Kurt, which Kurt has some blame in this or it was the offensive line and backs in protection. It was a combination of a number of things going wrong and they seemed to happen to us in a flurry of time during the first half. We didn't handle it well and were going to work to correct it."
The defense took plenty of criticism after giving up 56 points but Whisenhunt isn't ready to write them off.
"I think it's been a little bit of mistakes mentally," Whisenhunt said. "Not being in the right gap. Not communicating the correct coverage. Not being in the right techniques. It was really hard to judge them because it seemed like every series in the first half, we were giving them the ball down in plus territory. It hurts your defense because they're backed up all day. I would hesitant to judge them on the way the last two games have gone."
Ending on a positive note, Whisenhunt reached out to fans.
"We've kind of been on a little bit of a roller coaster. We were on a high after the first two weeks. Now were on a low after the last two. If you look at where we are, we are still in first place in our division and still have great opportunity in front of us."
