Philadelphia Eagles Gobble Up Cardinals
--Not much clicked for the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night. The first half foreshadowed the doom. The opening glimpse of normalcy was WR Steve Breaston's electrifying 17-yard catch when he managed to fend SS Quintin Mikell off to secure the ball. Two plays later, Breaston's play was null and void as QB Kurt Warner was picked off.
Breaston would later come up big once again. He fought off contact and brought the Cardinals up to 31-13. The score board was meant to read 31-15 after a double take by Warner on a pair of two point conversions. The first crack at the end zone was flagged; the second try was a pass to Larry Fitzgerald that was broken up by Sheldon Brown.
--The Cardinals defense got more face time in Philly than Arizona's high-octane offense did. Some defensive players, stepped up, others did not. Chike Okeafor and Antonio Smith took care of business quick as they combined for the game's first sack. The blitz was an opportune time as the Eagles were already up two touchdowns.
--Antrel Rolle was looking for double digit tackles on Thursday, but his play wasn't enough to stop the Eagles who were on a mission. The win over the Cardinals keeps the Eagles in the playoff hunt.
--Anquan Boldin dropped a textbook touchdown pass with four minutes left in the first half. He focused on his oncoming attacker rather than his catch. Boldin knew it was his bad, and Warner chucked it to Boldin once again. An illegal strip prevented the second touchdown attempt. On the next test, Warner was forced to throw it away like yesterday's garbage. All in all, it was a messy goal line possession for the Cardinals, but they finally got the job done thanks to Larry Fitzgerald, 21-7.
--Fitzgerald helped out his team once again to start the fourth quarter in style with a 7-yard pass from Warner. The opening drive of the quarter reached the end zone with five plays in about a minute, 34-20. Fitzgerald's second touchdown of the game put the Cardinals back on the radar. But turnovers stopped the progression once again.
