The Arizona Cardinals were whipped back into shape on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. See…
Cardinals Offense Shocked Back in Rhythm
"I think the big thing (Sunday) was that we had some big plays that we made early in the game," Whisenhunt said. "Anquan (Boldin's) first down on the second play of the game where he ran back in there on the quick screen for a first down really got us going. We had a couple of nice catches. A couple of the early passes were maybe a little high and guys went up and made the catches. When that happens, we kind of build on that."
While acknowledging setting the record was nice, Warner downplayed the significance and the degree of difficulty. He said he had a good idea what the Jaguars were going to do defensively and that he got by with a couple of bad passes.
"I just told myself, 'don't get away from what you're doing. Just keep being consistent,'" Warner said. "We have a lot of guys you can feel comfortable throwing to. I thought they (the offensive linemen) did a great job. There was just a couple of times I had pressure.
"Coaches did a good job of calling some quick plays, getting the ball out of my hands and into our playmakers' hands. And that always helps the offensive line. Instead of just standing back there and having to attack downfield."
Nine Cardinals caught passes, although Larry Fitzgerald wasn't a big part of the offense, catching four passes for 34 yards.
"We were calling some plays to try and get Larry the ball but what I wanted to be conscious of in that game was not forcing anything just to get him the ball," Warner said.
--SS Adrian Wilson said he wouldn't change his style of play despite being disciplined by the league for hitting defenseless receivers. Wilson was fined $10,000 for blasting 49ers tight end Vernon Davis in the season opener. He had a similar chance to hit a Jaguars receiver last Sunday but seemed to pull up a bit.
--S Antrel Rolle's return of a field goal for a touchdown last week gives him six touchdowns in his career. Four have come on interceptions returns and one on a fumble return. Rolle, however, was upset that he misjudged two punts. "I don't think I made the best decisions when it comes to special teams."
--Rookie running back Beanie Wells received a game ball during the Jaguars game, but it wasn't for a good reason. When Wells came to the sideline after his second fumble, strong safety Adrian Wilson gave him a football with "Beanie" written on it.
Wells is going to be carrying the ball everywhere this week.
"You can't have plays like that," Wilson said. "Putting the ball on the ground is forbidden. You have to get that M.O. off yourself as a football player and a running back. If teams know that you fumble, then they'll try to go to the ball all the time."
--QB Kurt Warner left the game late in the third quarter with the Cardinals leading by three scores. He had a sore right shoulder so Whisenhunt went with Matt Leinart.
"I know that I'm ready and know that as I play more I'll keep getting better," Leinart said. "As long as I keep mentally sharp, the physical part and all those things are going to come."
Leinart completed three of six passes but one of them was dropped.
STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL
--WR Steve Breaston played against Jacksonville after missing the opener with a knee injury. Breaston is an excellent No. 3 receiver who can run after the catch.
--WR Anquan Boldin isn't fully recovered from a hamstring injury but he's getting closer. Boldin had eight catches for 69 yards last week and looked quicker.
--QB Kurt Warner is continuing to nurse a sore right shoulder, the result of a stinger suffered in the first week. Warner aggravated the injury in Jacksonville but said he will be fine for the Colts game Sunday night.
--OLB Bertrand Berry started in place of the injured Chike Okeafor and had his second sack in as many weeks.
--DE Calais Campbell has made big plays in each of the first two games. He has batted down two passes and blocked a field goal.
