What Week 4 Meant to the Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals were scheduled for an early bye, but the rest of the league carried on without them on Sunday. Week 4's games proved how different the NFC West is this year and foreshadowed a few of the Cardinals upcoming games.

The Arizona Cardinals watched as the San Francisco 49ers moved further up the NFC West ladder with a 35-0 win over the St. Louis Rams. The 49ers improve to 3-1, which is the best record in the division.

The record also marks the 49ers best start to the season in seven years.

Winning the division is certainly on the 49ers minds.

“That is our first goal, is to win the division, but that’s not our only goal," Coach Mike Singletary said. "When you look at the NFC West, a lot of people think this is a weak division. I don’t think that’s the case. But as we go forward, the most important thing for us right now is to win the division. But as we go forward, we want to be one of the best teams in the NFL. That’s where we want to go. Obviously, we’ve got a lot of work to do, but that’s where our sights are, far sight. Near sight is winning the division.”

Perpetual NFC West powerhouse the Seattle Seahawks, fell to 1-3 on Sunday. The Seahawks scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to narrow the gap between the Indianapolis Colts. The game ended at 34-17.

Interim quarterback Seneca Wallace did what he could against a punishing Colts pass rush. Wallace couldn't escape five sacks.

The Seahawks next two games are at home. First the Jacksonville Jaguars come to town, followed by the Cardinals. Matt Hasselbeck is expected back shortly, as are a few other players in key spots.

The Cardinals still have a couple weeks to think about their NFC West matchup in the Pacific Northwest, while the time is ticking on prep time for the Houston Texans.

The Texans knocked off the Oakland Raiders in a 29-6 victory. The Texans move to .500 with two wins and two losses. The Texans players didn't showcase any big-time threats. Their leading receiver, Andre Johnson, posted 66 yards to lead the team. Running back Steve Slaton led the ground crew with 65 yards.

The Texans defense sacked QB JaMarcus Russell twice. The Texans are happy for the win but were not that impressed with their performance. The popular attitude post-game was that the Texans need to get better, but they will take the "W."
