Arizona Cardinals Re-Sign Two Tight Ends
Originally a first-round pick of the New York Jets (27th overall) in the 2000 NFL Draft, Becht played five seasons (2000-04) for the Jets and spent three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2005-07) before joining the Rams. The former West Virginia Mountaineer has contributed to seven 1,000-yard rushers in his 10-year career and has registered 185 receptions for 1,511 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Spach (6-4, 260) played in seven games (five starts) for the Cardinals in 2009 and had four catches for 38 yards. He originally came to Arizona as a free agent on October 28, 2008 and appeared in 11 games that season with six starts at tight end.
He entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Philadelphia in 2005 out of Fresno State and played in 13 games (one start), collecting seven receptions for 42 yards as a rookie. He was released by the Eagles in 2006 and spent training camp with the Minnesota Vikings in 2007 before signing with the New England Patriots where he appeared in three games that season. For his career, Spach has appeared in 36 games (12 starts) and has 13 receptions for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
Spach and Becht are known as solid blockers and league sources believe the Cardinals will make a stronger commitment to the running game with veteran QB Kurt Warner deciding to retire recently.
