Ryan Knowles breaks down training camp action from Flagstaff as the Cardinals prepare for the preseason.

The Cards looked eager to hit something other than teammates and tackling dummies on Wednesday as their 2010 training camp progressed with the final two-a-day session of the week. As Arizona prepares to host the Houston Texans on Saturday, they look to be easing into the preseason with light workouts.

Highlights: Rookie quarterback John Skelton showed his “rawness”, throwing two straight interceptions to linebacker Mark Washington and safety Aaron Rouse. Skelton has struggled at times, while fellow rookie Max Hall has thrived in practice. The preseason may tell a different story, but Skelton must take better advantage of his opportunities to win his “fight for 53.”

Staying with the quarterbacks, both Matt Leinart and Derek Anderson made some great throws in the afternoon session. Anderson completed a deep pass to Larry Fitzgerald for a touchdown, while Leinart was on target with nearly all his throws while tossing a touchdown strike of his own. Both signal callers are making a case to be the starter and the preseason will be the difference on who earns the job.

Another sign of restlessness set in as a number of player switched jerseys on Wednesday. Several of the Cards, including the entire defensive line, exchanged numbers during the morning session. This could make it harder for coaches when grading film, but whatever it takes to keep things fresh…

Position Battle: At middle linebacker, recently signed Pago Togafu has replaced Monty Beisel with the first-team defense. With Gerald Hayes out until the start of the regular season, any players who step up at the position are worth taking note. Togafu has been a favorite of head coach Ken Whisenhunt and he has played well in the short time he has been with the team.

Roster Moves: Arizona waived injured defensive end Keilen Dykes and signed undrafted rookie defensive lineman John Fletcher. Fletcher, a Wyoming product, spent time in camp with the Baltimore Ravens before being released.

Quote of the Day: “The thing I loved the most was moving the man across from you from Point A to Point B against his will.” –Assistant Head Coach Russ Grimm during his Hall of Fame induction speech

Injuries: Cornerback Greg Toler (ankle) and wide receiver Early Doucet (abdominal strain) returned to practice. While wide Receivers Steve Breaston (knee) and Ed Gant (foot) and defensive lineman Alan Branch (hip) missed both sessions, but none are considered serious. Tight ends Ben Patrick (knee) and Dominique Byrd (hamstring) and linebacker Reggie Walker (hamstring) continue to miss time and will likely not play in Saturday’s preseason game. Linebacker Mark Washington (illness) missed the morning session, but practiced in the afternoon.
