AZ Scores Low Marks In Key Areas

Roderick Hood was beat several times last week

The Arizona Cardinals continue to set the curve in passing, but struggled in key areas. Here is there report card from week eight against the Carolina Panthers.

REPORT CARD VS. PANTHERS

PASSING OFFENSE: A -- Kurt Warner was brilliant again, operating the team's spread packages to near perfection. He's getting a hit a lot, however.

RUSHING OFFENSE F -- The Cardinals didn't try too hard to run it. Edgerrin James and Tim Hightower weren't getting much on the ground. With the passing game working, there was little need to force the issue.

PASS DEFENSE: C -- Panthers receiver Steve Smith scored twice, and quarterback Jake Delhomme was sacked only once. The Cardinals have only three interceptions this year.

RUSH DEFENSE: C -- The Cardinals couldn't stop the Panthers in crunch time. Running back DeAngelo Williams gained 108 yards, breaking numerous tackles in doing so.

SPECIAL TEAMS: D -- A fake field goal failed and holder Dirk Johnson dropped the ball on a point after attempt. The return games didn't produce much.

COACHING: B -- The offensive game plan was solid. You could question the reliance on the pass but the Cardinals gained 425 yards. Defensively, the Cardinals have shown they can wilt in critical situations. And the fake punt on fourth-and-15 was a questionable call.
